Your Reliable dredge cutter head
A dredge cutter, commonly referred to as a dredge cutter head, is an essential component used in conjunction with a dredger or submersible dredge pump. Its purpose is to remove sediments like sand, slurry, and debris from the bottom of water bodies such as rivers, lakes, ports, and channels.
Installed at the end of a long arm or ladder on a dredger, or at the suction/sides of a submersible dredge pump, the cutter head plays a vital role in breaking down compacted soil, rocks, and other materials on the sea floor or river beds. Equipped with multiple rotating cutting teeth or blades, the cutter head effectively shreds the sediment into smaller fragments. The loose material is then easily drawn up by the dredger’s pump or bucket for efficient removal.
Various cutter head types are available, selected based on factors such as dredged material type, depth, and project needs. Replaceable wear teeth ensure longevity and performance.
Powering the dredge cutter head can be accomplished by a hydraulic motor or electric motor:
1.Hydraulic Motor Driven Dredge Cutter Head: This setup employs a hydraulic motor connected to a hydraulic power pack, including a pump, reservoir, and control valves. The motor converts pressurized hydraulic fluid into rotational energy, driving the cutter head. Suited for heavy-duty cutting tasks, it offers versatility.
2.Electric Motor Driven Dredge Cutter Head: In this configuration, an electric motor powers the cutter head. The motor can connect to a generator or an onboard electrical grid. Generating rotational energy, the electric motor drives the cutting mechanism. This option is advantageous when reliable electric power is accessible.
Power Source:
For hydraulic motor-driven systems, the power source could be a diesel engine hydraulic power station, operated by a hydraulic pump connected to a diesel engine or generator. Electric motor-driven systems can either connect directly to a generator or tap into existing industrial power.
The choice between hydraulic and electric motor-driven cutter heads depends on project requirements, available power sources, and operational efficiency.
The dredge cutter head holds significant importance in the dredging industry, extensively utilized in projects involving sand pumping, dredging, tailings transportation, land reclamation, and more.
